Massachusetts Medicare Plans

In Massachusetts there is no limit to out-of-pocket costs unless you’re also enrolled in a Medicare Supplement. These plans, while not standardized, do have consumer protections for age and certain waiting periods. 

Because of these specific laws for Massachusetts it’s helpful to ask a licensed Medicare agent to assist you with enrollment. 

Massachusetts Medicare plans open enrollment

In Massachusetts you are able to enroll for Medicare benefits beginning the 3 months prior to your 65th birthday and extending for 3 months after your birthday. During this open enrollment time you are also able to enroll in Medicare Supplements. It is best to enroll in a Supplement at this time because you cannot be turned down for pre-existing health conditions. 

Massachusetts also has a Medigap open enrollment period that is “guaranteed issue: from Feb 1st to March 31st each year. 

Medigap Plans

Deductibles and coinsurance are costs often left behind by Original Medicare policies. Outpatient expenses are only covered at 80%. These reasons may persuade you into enrolling in a Supplement. 

A Medicare Supplement will put a cap on your out-of-pocket spending and will allow you see any doctor that see Medicare patients. 

There are only two Medicare Supplement plans in Massachusetts and they are not standardized across plans. Be sure to compare and shop the plans carefully. We are able to assist you with this process. 

Medicare Advantage Plans

Depending on which county you live in, there are up to 44 Advantage plans available. These are also known as Part C plan. Advantage plans provide the same coverage as original Medicare, but with some additional benefits that may interest you. These plans also cover vision, dental and prescription drugs. 

Medicare Part D

 Many beneficiaries decide to enroll in a Part D plan in order to assist with prescription drug coverage. There are 26 plan in Massachusetts. These plans will help to cover costs at the pharmacy that original Medicare and Supplements don’t cover.
