Iowa Medicare Plans
Iowa, like all states, offers plenty of Medicare policies; however, these policies are improved by additional Supplement plans to lower out-of-pocket costs.
Iowa Medicare plans open enrollment
For the three months leading up to your 65th birthday and three months following you are allowed to enroll in Medicare coverage. This is your Open Enrollment period. At this time it is best to enroll in any Supplements you need. This is because you cannot be declined due to pre-existing health conditions during open enrollment. Although you can enroll in a supplement at any time, it is possible to be denied.
Original Medicare only covers 80% of your outpatient expenses. Deductibles and coinsurance are also left over by Original Medicare. Many beneficiaries choose to enroll in a Supplement that can limit out-of-pocket expenses.
Another benefit of Supplements is you may visit any doctor that accepts Medicare.
These are standard plans lettered A-N. Similarly lettered plans provide similar coverage, but the difference is the price. You will want to shop around through the plans to find the best plan for your healthcare and budgetary needs.
In you were enrolled in Medigap plans C or F prior to 2019, you will be able to remain enrolled in those plans. New beneficiaries are not able to enroll in those plans.
Medicare Advantage Plans
Iowa provides 20 Advantage or Part C plans. These plans are private plans that offer all the existing benefits of Original Medicare and provide additional benefits. These benefits are dental, vision and prescription coverage.
Medicare Part D
The 28 Part D plans help to cover the out-of-pocket costs at the pharmacy. Original Medicare does not cover prescription drugs, so many beneficiaries will opt to enroll in a Part D plan or Advantage plan to help with their prescription costs.
