Illinois Medicare Plans
Illinois residents can enroll in original Medicare benefits, Supplements and/or Advantage plans during their open-enrollment period at age 65. Supplements can help limit costs associated with healthcare that original Medicare don’t cover.
Illinois Medicare plans open enrollment
Those enrolling in Medicare benefits can begin doing so during their open enrollment period. This time frame begins 3 months prior to their birthday and extend for 3 months following their birthday. This period is also the best time to enroll in a Supplement as you cannot be turned down due to existing health conditions.
While you can enroll in a Supplement at any time, it is possible to be denied coverage.
A Medicare Supplement is the best option if you have deductibles and coinsurance costs that are left behind by original Medicare. A Supplement will help to cover those costs as well as many other out-of-pocket expenses.
Original Medicare only covers 80% of your expenses, so a supplement could save you in the long run. Another benefit of a supplement is it allows you to see any doctor that accepts Medicare.
Illinois has 10 plans that offer a standard coverage. This coverage is standardized across all plans. These plans are lettered A-N and similarly lettered plans have similar coverage. The main difference in these plans is the price. This is why it’s important to shop your coverage. A licensed agent can help you with this daunting task.
If you were enrolled in Medigap Plans C or F prior to 2019 you may remain enrolled in that plan; however, new beneficiaries will not be able to choose those plans.
Medicare Advantage Plans
