Georgia Medicare Plans
Georgia has many Medicare, Advantage and Supplement plans available. These additional plans can offer more coverage to assist your healthcare needs.
Georgia Medicare plans open enrollment
Georgia residents ready to enroll in Medicare benefits can do so 3 months prior to their 65th birthday. The enrollment period continues for 3 months following their 65th birthday. At this time one can also enroll in Medicare Supplements.
While a resident of Georgia can enroll in Medicare Supplements at any time, it is best to do so during the initial enrollment period as they cannot be declined for pre-existing health conditions.
With Original Medicare benefits in Georgia, coinsurance and deductibles often leave beneficiaries with medical bills. A Supplement can help cover these additional costs. Medicare only covers about 80% of the out-of-pocket costs. A Supplement could be invaluable.
These Supplements also allow you to see any doctor that accepts Medicare.
Georgia offers 10 plans. These plans, lettered A-N, all offer a standard coverage. Similarly lettered plans also all match in coverage. The only difference in these plans comes down to the price. It is important that you compare all the potential plans to find the best coverage and the best choice for your budget prior to making a decision.
A licensed Medicare agent can walk you through all these choices.
If you were enrolled in a Medigap plan C or F prior to 2019, you will be able to remain on these plans. New beneficiaries will not be able to choose these plans.
Medicare Advantage Plans
There are 48 Medicare Advantage plans, Part C plans, in Georgia. This number varies by county. Advantage plans are private insurance plans that cover basic Medicare benefits as well as additional benefits for vision, dental and prescription coverage.
Medicare Part D
Many Medicare beneficiaries may want additional coverage for prescription drugs. Original Medicare and Supplements can fail to cover all those costs. Part D plans help to cover prescription costs. Currently, there are 26 Part D plans available to Georgia residents. If you need assistance with those out-of-pocket prescription costs, we can help you find the best Advantage or Part D plan.
